Report: Germany coaches extend to 2026 — but one Bayern Munich alum could be eyeing club return sooner

Bundesliga clubs are already circling around Julian Nagelsmann assistant Sandro Wagner.

Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany roster is taking shape — not just on the squad side but also on the staff. Staff members Sandro Wagner, Benjamin Glück, Andreas Kronenberg and Mads Buttgereit have all extended past this summer’s EURO 2024 competition. But the eye now is on assistant Wagner, the former Bayern striker who could have opportunities at club level soon.

The report comes from Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg:
Very important for the DFB: The coaching team, including Sandro #Wagner, has also extended their contracts until the 2026 World Cup!
➡️ But: It’s uncertain whether Wagner will actually stay that long. The 36 y/o has already received inquiries from the Bundesliga to become a head coach!
➡️ Wagner will complete his coaching license towards the end of the year. From then on, he can coach in the Bundesliga. Also extended: Benjamin Glück (analysis), Andreas Kronenberg (goalkeepers), Mads Buttgereit (set pieces). @SkySportDE

Wagner is now associated with the Germany men’s national team resurgence in the wake of Hansi Flick’s disappointing final months in charge. But the big test will come this summer, when the Germans will have to prove their return to form was for more than two friendlies in March.

Could Wagner be in line to coach Bayern Munich by the next Rückrunde? At this stage, it is hard to rule it out. For now, though, expect Robert Lewandowski’s former deputy to cut his teeth at other Bundesliga clubs. If Wagner’s coaching star continues to rise, perhaps one day the Bavarians will come calling again.
